Cyberpunk 2077 surprise sequel announcement is a hit with fans

With CD Projekt Red confirming that more Cyberpunk 2077 related projects were on the way, we didn’t expect one to be announced so soon.

However, that was the case earlier this month when thanks to a collaboration between CD Projekt Red and Netflix, it was revealed that a new animated series was on the way.

With some fans hoping that it will be a sequel to 2022’s Cyberpunk: Edgerunners whilst others hope it is a new story entirely, that information is not yet known.

However, news of a sequel in general has fans feeling hyped.

What we do know is that Studio Trigger, the animators behind Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, will not be returning and instead, the reins will be handed over to Netflix Animations, the streamer’s in-house studio.

Not only could that be confirmation that it will not be a direct sequel to Edgerunners, but we can expect to see a whole different style of animation altogether.

Be that as it may, fans of Cyberpunk 2077 are eager for more of the futuristic world and took to r/scifi to share their thoughts on the animated sequel.

“I figured it's going to be separate from Edgerunners,” one user said.

“Consider the Cyberpunk comics from Dark Horse. Each series runs for at most four issues, and has a distinct main cast.”

Another user had some thoughts about where the story could go: “Really hoping they give us a story about the Nomads next. The first season was definitely a street kid start, I would love to see a completely separate story about a nomad group or a fallen corpo story.”

With Edgerunners being such a hit, this untitled sequel has a lot to live up to. However, fans are still feeling hopeful.

We have not yet received a release date for the new Cyberpunk 2077 animated show but there is no denying that millions of fans will be seated when the time comes.
