'The Witcher' Season Three Is Written And Ready To Go

'The Witcher' Season Three Is Written And Ready To Go

Apparently the script is "amazing", and it's already time to bring the actors and directors back in

So, season two of The Witcher landed on Netflix less than a week ago, and has been hit with a mixed reception, to say the least. There’s been some pretty major deviations from the source material, and not everyone has been happy (although the author of the original short story series is fine with it, apparently). Well, onwards and upwards, because apparently season three is already well underway.

“Actually, this is our last week [December 3] in the writers’ room,” showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich told TechRadar. “We’re almost done with the scripting phase, and it’s amazing. I’m really thrilled with how the season is shaping up because it’s based on my favourite book in the saga, which is Time of Contempt.”

That doesn’t mean we’ll be seeing anything of the third season any time soon though, as she went on to explain: “I feel like seasons one and two have been laying the playing field for everything huge that’s about to happen. But the creative process is now really just starting. We have the scripts, and now we’ll bring directors on, the actors back in, and really start delving in deeper and reflecting back and making sure that it’s the perfect season.”

So, that’s exciting, isn’t it? The third season of the show was only confirmed back in September, where it was also announced that there’s going to be a second anime feature film, as well as a new Kids and Family series set in the world of The Witcher. And yes, I’m as confused about that last one as you are - The Witcher has never exactly screamed “family-friendly”.

There’s still no confirmed release date for season three, though - there was a two-year gap between the first and second, so you’d think if that was anything to go by, we might not be seeing the third until 2023. That said, the recently released second season was hit by some chunky Covid-related delays, although the way things are going, that might not be much different for season three either - thanks, Omicron. With plenty of Witcher content set to grace our screens in the near future though, it’s all to look forward to.
