The Witcher 4 given exciting update by CDPR

The Witcher 4 given exciting update by CDPR

Full steam ahead

The Witcher 4 has just received a progress update by CD Projekt Red, and it’s an exciting milestone in the overall development.

It’s been nearly a decade since The Witcher 3 was released. Since then, we’ve had a handful of spin-off games, three seasons of The Witcher TV series, and the announcement of a Witcher remake of the original.

However, fans are still keen to learn when exactly CD Projekt Red will be releasing the next mainline follow-up in the series.

We're hoping The Witcher 4 gives Ciri the time she deserves.

Announced in 2022, The Witcher 4 has been in early development ever since then. But now, an exciting progress update given by CD Projekt Red gives us a closer idea of how far along in development it is.

Using the codename "Project Polaris", CD Projekt Red has revealed that The Witcher 4 has entered full-scale production.

“I'm thrilled to announce that Project Polaris has entered the full-scale production phase," Game director Sebastian Kalemba posted on X (formerly Twitter). "With new challenges just around the corner, it’s the talented and hard-working people who make me believe we can together make the upcoming Witcher Saga a remarkable experience"

Joint CEO Michał Nowakowski also posted on X: “Entering the production stage of Polaris is an important step on our path to deliver the game and our long term strategic goals.”

Details on The Witcher 4, including plot and characters, are still kept under wraps. All we know is that it is intended to kick off a new saga in the series, with CDPR aiming to release two more sequels after it.

When a game reaches full-scale production, this generally means the studio has finished building the foundation of development, and then work can begin on putting it all together.

This does mean The Witcher 4 is still likely a few years away though, so don’t go expecting it to be out for the end of next year. Nonetheless, it’s a major milestone that tells us development is progressing smoothly.

Considering the issues CDPR had with Cyberpunk 2077 during production, we can only hope The Witcher 4 doesn’t run into the same roadblocks.
