When it comes to fantasy RPGs, there are not many games that deliver that formula quite like CD Projekt RED’s The Witcher series.

Based on the Andrzej Sapkowski novels, the first game to arrive in The Witcher series was in 2007 for the PC and for its time, it wasn't the most well-received game in the series but still earned a very respectable score of 81 on Metacritic.

However, with the release of The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings in 2012, followed by The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt in 2015, the latter of which is considered to be one of the best games of all time, the third entry in this beloved series certainly helped to put CDPR on the map.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is not only one of the most immersive video games to ever grace us with its presence but the huge open world map of the Continent is packed full of interesting NPCs, side-quests, events and much more.

Yet to this day, there are still plenty of discoveries to be made, especially for new fans that may have been introduced with The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt’s free new-gen update for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S in 2022.

One of the most memorable moments in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is with its menacing boss encounter with The Crones as a flashback during Ciri’s first quest ‘Ciri’s Story: Fleeing the Bog’.

As reported by The Gamer, The Crones are considered to be one of the toughest bosses in the game, however, this encounter can be made much easier thanks to a very helpful glitch but there is a major catch.

Rather than encountering The Crones as CDPR intended during story development, it is possible to encounter them if you go back to a cabin featured after the mission ‘Ladies of the Wood’.

If you go back to the cabin in question, you will encounter The Crones which despite being very menacing in their intended form, will be easy picking due to a glitch. Unfortunately, if you encounter this hidden boss encounter, it will result in a game over.

The reason why the game greets you with a game over is that you’re not supposed to kill The Crones during a flashback because that moment is intended for later in the game.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is out now on PC, PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch.
