It’s official. The Sandman is returning for a second season on Netflix. Based on Neil Gaiman’s comic book series, The Sandman skyrocketed up the Netflix charts after it debuted in August of this year. The series centres around Morpheus - an Endless who must restore his realm, The Dreaming, after 106 years in captivity.

The series ranked at number one in Netflix’s global top 10 just three days after release yet despite this success, Gaiman was unsure if a second season would come. He previously tweeted, “Sandman is a really expensive show and for Netflix to release the money to let us make another season, we have to perform incredibly well. So yes, we’ve been the top show in the world for the last two weeks. That still may not be enough.” Luckily for us, Netflix has decided it was enough.

Need something new to watch on Netflix? TV series The Midnight Club has just set the world record for the most jumpscares in a single episode of television.

In fact, Netflix let Gaiman break the news. Taking to Twitter, the author wrote, “The rumours are true. Netflix is thrilled that so many of you have been watching Sandman, and the thing we were all hoping would happen... has indeed happened.” The tweet was accompanied by a brief teaser showing Morpheus’ Helm of Dreams. Take a look below.

In a statement posted by Netflix, Gaiman added, “Millions upon millions of people have welcomed and watched and loved The Sandman on Netflix, from established Sandman fans to people who were simply curious, and then became obsessed with the Lord of Dreams, his family and their goings-on. It gives me unbelievable pleasure to say that, working with Netflix and Warner Bros, Allan Heinberg, David Goyer and I will be bringing even more of The Sandman stories to life.”

What’s more is that if you’re a Sandman super fan, Netflix has also added a bunch of profile icons featuring the show’s characters.
