Fans of the Lord of the Rings franchise that are calling out for a new video game adaptation need not worry as Lord of the Rings: Age of the Ring is the RPG we have all been craving.

There is no denying that The Lord of the Rings franchise has taken over all aspects of the media since the first book, The Fellowship of the Ring, was published way back in 1954.

Since then, we have received countless more books, movies, television shows and video games and it is one of those games, The Lord of the Rings: The Battle for Middle-earth, that has inspired this award-winning mod.

Released back in 2004, The Lord of the Rings: The Battle for Middle-earth was the first part in the Middle-earth strategy series inspired by The Lord of the Rings movie trilogy by Peter Jackson.

With the series now being quite outdated, a group of talented creators have come together to create the Age of the Ring mod which uses the engine from Lord of the Rings: Battle for Middle-earth 2: Rise of the Witch-king.

“The mod aims to create an RTS experience that is faithful to the spirit of the Tolkien mythos, with diverse, engaging and balanced gameplay,” the official mod description reads.

“It features dozens of new heroes, units, spells and abilities as well as new maps and a campaign following the journey of the Fellowship of the Ring.”

This massive mod has not only brought Fellowship of the Ring to the game but also The Two Towers and Return of the King and the creators show no signs of slowing down.

From factions to join to custom animations and voice lines, this mod acts as a completely new game and better yet, it is absolutely free to play.

“I'm a big fan of the original games. Playing this is absolutely amazing and the amount of work the modders put into this is insane,” one fan said.

“I've been playing for around 12 hours and I'm just at the beginning of the Two Towers. Says something about the amount of work the modders did in this game.”
