After months and months of endless chatter, Sony has finally confirmed - albeit accidentally - that a remake of The Last of Us will soon be released.

Us The Last of Us fans have been wondering for quite some time now what Naughty Dog have been cooking up over in the kennel. It’s been heavily rumoured that a The Last of Us-inspired multiplayer game was in the works, and surely a third mainline game is coming at some point too. We now know though that the next project from the studio will indeed be a new-gen remake of the 2013 classic… and it’s got a brand new name.

The Last of Us has one of the best video game openings of all time. Check out our other favourites below.

The remake has been built from the ground up for the PlayStation 5 and is now officially titled The Last of Us Part 1. The announcement was accidentally leaked by Sony when a pre-order for the game appeared on the company’s Direct store. The link has now been taken down but we can safely assume the official reveal is happening soon as the game is set to launch on 2 September, 2022. It's also thought that the game will launch on PC too, with both versions retailing at around $70.

The product description reads: “Experience the emotional storytelling and unforgettable characters of Joel and Ellie in The Last of Us, winner of over 200 Game of the Year awards and now rebuilt for PlayStation 5. Enjoy a total overhaul of the original experience, faithfully reproduced but incorporating modernised gameplay, improved controls and expanded accessibility options. Plus, feel immersed with improved effects and enhanced exploration and combat.”

The listing went on to confirm that The Last of Us Part 1 will also include the Left Behind DLC. There’s no mention yet of whether the Factions multiplayer component will be included. I for one though already cannot wait.
