The Boys creator says that Amazon begged him to cut the Homelander masturbation scene from the series.

The Amazon Prime Video series is without question one of the most popular TV programmes of the modern day. This is not only indicated by its Rotten Tomatoes scores of 93% from critics, and 83% from the audience, but The Boys on IMDB also has an impressive score of 8.7.

The Boys is based upon a comic book series of the same name by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, the series tells the tale of when superheroes run the world with the power of mega-corporations and propaganda pushing the narrative. However, not is all that it seems.

The superhero group collectively known as “The Seven” with the backing of the evil corporate entity Vought, wants you to believe that all of its heroes are knights in white shining armour, and in most cases, that cannot be any further from the truth.

Though to be fair, all of The Seven are not evil douchebags, but I won't spoil that for you here. At the forefront of the superhero narrative is Superman-inspired, Homelander. Let’s just say, he’s no Clark Kent.

The Boys is no stranger to controversy in its Amazon TV series with a constant tirade of bad language, over-the-top gore and scenes of a sexual nature. That being said, it’s some of those themes that have made The Boys as popular as it is, not to mention that it’s a fantastic series in its own right.

Yet, even with a series such as this one continually pushing the boundaries, even Amazon feels some scenes may be too much and one in particular involves the aforementioned Homelander.

As reported by our friends at UNILAD, The Boys co-creator of the Amazon series, Eric Kripke was asked by Redditor justNicaL during an AMA: “What scene was cut from the show that you wish could have stayed in?” and Kripke highlighted a scene in an episode in which Homelander gets a little hands-on, with himself.

“There was ONE SCENE that Amazon said F*** NO, you have to cut. I couldn't quite understand why considering everything else we have in the show, but: Homelander, after being dressed down by Stilwell in episode 2, was standing on one of the Chrysler building Eagles,” explained Kripke.

He continued: “He pulled his pants down and started jerking off, mumbling "I can do whatever I want" over and over again until he climaxed all over New York City. We shot it! Oh my God, Anthony was the BEST in that scene. Amazon seemed to think it wasn't necessary. I thought it told me something about his psyche. To be clear, they've been great, that may have been the ONLY fight I lost in Season 1.”

After three seasons and another on the way, we doubt that The Boys will be changing anytime soon with promises of even more ‘crazy sh*t’ yet to come. In other related news, thanks to a leak, it’s been pretty much confirmed that Homelander will be a playable character in Mortal Kombat 1.

No release date has been announced for The Boys season four at the time of writing, but it is expected to launch on Prime Video sometime in early 2024.
