'Stranger Things' Bosses Hint At Fan-Favourite Character Death In Finale

Please don't do this to me

Major spoilers for Stranger Things 4 Vol. 1 ahead. You've been warned!

Guys, I'm worried about Steve Harrington. Stranger Things 4 Vol. 2 is just a few weeks away, and I have the most horrible feeling that the jock-turned babysitter isn't going to make it out alive.

Those that have been following the hit Netflix series from the very beginning will know the the beautifully bequiffed Harrington (played by Joe Keery) has experienced one of the best character arcs on the show.

Originally a selfish jock with a singular focus on getting into Nancy's pants, Steve has evolved into a kind, caring, and loyal hero. He deserves happiness, damnit. And that's why I can feel it in my bones that he won't live to see season five.

Stranger Things 4 Vol. 1 ended with Steve in a pretty bad place. While it certainly looks like he's about to escape the Upside Down, there's no getting around the fact several monstrous bats took a big old chunk out of him before the others could arrive to help.

And Robins' concern about Steve getting rabies? I don't think that was a throwaway line. If four seasons of Stranger Things has taught us anything, it's that nothing happens by accident. Obviously Steve isn't literally going to get rabies, but I'd bet my last can of Farrah Fawcett hair spray that the bats gave him something.

There's also the fact that the show is clearly teasing some kind of romantic reconciliation between Steve and Nancy (Natalie Dyer). Given Nancy's current boyfriend Jonathan (Charlie Heaton) is still out there, I'd say someone is about to die. And things are looking much worse for poor old Steve.

"Everybody's always worried about Steve. I love it," Stranger Things showrunner Matt Duffer told TVLine. "We always have to beat Steve up somehow, so certainly the Demobats have done that job pretty well already this season."

While Matt didn't give much away about Steve's future (or lack of it), co-showrunner Ross Duffer was much more ominous.

"It feels wrong to say 'excited', but I'm excited that people are concerned," Ross said. "And they should be concerned going into the final two episodes [of season 4] — for everybody."

The final two episodes of Stranger Things 4 arrive on Netflix July 1. And I'm not trying to be dramatic, but if they kill Steve Harrington I am 100% cancelling my subscription.
