Steam users haven’t got long left to pick up a 2020 ‘masterpiece’, which is currently free to download and keep forever.

Everyone loves a free game every now and then, which is probably why Steam is renowned for very generously handing out a variety of free games every month, many of which are fantastic games in their own right.

This month has been no different, as gamers have had the chance to download the beautifully crafted narrative-adventure game, Tell Me Why, and boy is it a heartache.

Developed by DONTNOD Entertainment, the studio behind the critically-acclaimed Life Is Strange series, Tell Me Why follows twins Tyler and Alyson, who each have supernatural abilities, as they set out to unravel mysteries from their upbringing. The player controls both characters, and has to make choices that’ll change the story further down the line, in what many have described as “narrative brilliance”.

If you don’t believe me, just take a look at some of the game’s sparkling Steam reviews, the ones that aren’t just quoting the Backstreet Boys song anyway…

"The game features a good story with some choices actually having an impact on the outcome. The main mystery is a little obvious, but doesn't take away from the overall experience," one wrote. "This was a beautiful story, I really enjoyed it," another user said. "Half-way chapter two: the characters are really well built and the emotions felt raw and original," another added.

Whether you’re into narrative-adventure games or are yet to try one, Tell Me Why is definitely worth a go, as it's held up phenomenally well since its release three years ago. It’s also free, so this deal is a no-brainer.

Tell Me Why is currently available as a free download on the Steam page, but only until 1 July at 6pm (UK time), so act fast if you want to add this one to your library.
