Starfield fans praise lack of 'unnecessary' celebrity actors

Gamers have been praising Starfield's lack of celebrity cover stars, as many believe including famous actors in games is "distracting".

Following the recent Starfield gameplay showcase, the hype for Bethesda’s space-exploration RPG is greater than ever before, and it’s not hard to see why.

While most gamers have been getting excited about the sheer enormity of the title, as well as the noticeable visual improvements in the most recent gameplay footage compared to the initial reveal, some people on Reddit have been praising the apparent lack of celebrity actors featured in the game. With Norman Reedus being the face of Death Stranding and Keanu Reeves’ character being a prominent figure in Cyberpunk 2077, not to mention Idris Elba’s inclusion in the Phantom Liberty expansion, it’s getting increasingly common to include famous faces in games. At the time of writing, however, Starfield doesn’t seem to have any.

Take a look at Starfield’s story trailer below.

“Don't get me wrong, I love Keanu. But in [Cyberpunk 2077,] as in many others with big name actors getting motion captured and all, it always feels distracting to me. A bit unnecessary and in some cases just a way to draw attention,” Reddit user GrisWitch wrote. “But there are amazing voice actors out there, and combined with memorable characters that are well designed and animated, those characters really stand out. And you can enjoy those characters without going ‘Ah, that is X, played by famous actor Y’. Maybe it's just me, but I like Starfield not having any big names for fanfare.”

Others agree: “I'd honestly rather them spend the money in paying the best writers and development team they can afford than shooting their load on two or three big names,” The_Istrix commented. “Yeah. It's distracting when I know an actor from somewhere else. And it's a little embarrassing when a game brags about having a celebrity actor. Like anyone cares,” M8753 wrote. “Genuinely this. I don't need Norman Reedus or Idris Elba in a game. And actually seeing them kind of takes me out of it,” added acemandoom.

Obviously, just because we’ve not seen any celebrity cameos up to this point, that doesn’t mean that there’ll be absolutely none hidden on any of the game’s 1000 planets. We already know that Oblivion’s Adoring Fan is in the game, and he’s as much of a star as anyone from Hollywood, if you ask me.
