A new free download for Stardew Valley adds a revolutionary new feature, and one that we should have had in the game years ago.

Stardew Valley is no stranger to getting new features, even years after launch. Nearly 10 years on from the game’s release, developer Eric ‘ConcernedApe’ Barone is still releasing updates for the game.

In fact, Barone has continued to state his intention to work on this game until the end of time, given that he’s confirmed a 1.7 update will be coming to the game in the future.

A new download by Stardew Valley modder slpOff has added an NPC diary to the game, which allows you to further track your relationship with the various characters that populate Pelican Town.

The diary tracks “every word, gift, and emotion you share with the villagers”, even going as far to include the smallest “hello” as having a place in your story.

Using the mod, you can access the diary from the menu, where it tracks all daily interactions with each NPC. Whenever you talk to a specific character, the dialogue is saved automatically in the diary for that day.

This is also the same for gift reactions, where giving a present to a character results in a certain reaction from them. Their reaction will be logged in the diary, along with the item name and their response.

Meanwhile, the feature also acts as a personal log. You can write your own thoughts in the diary for each day, as well as later edit or delete notes if you need to. This should be handy to help keep track of certain crop cycles or events that you have going on at the moment.

This will also be useful for keeping track of birthdays and other events, where you want to give someone a mighty gift and want to remember who likes what kind of presents.

The mod also includes a few other features which are quite useful, such as the ability to filter birthdays by season. This results in there being far less clutter when looking at the calendar. It also updates automatically, so no manual input is required whenever you talk or give a gift.

You can download Stardew Valley: NPC Diary now from Nexus Mods. As it is a mod for the PC version, you won’t be able to install it on console or mobile versions of the game.
