Star Wars fans in love with new Phantom Menace prequel: 'it's peak'

We finally got our first look at the freshly released prequel to Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace yesterday, and I haven't seen the Star Wars fanbase this unanimous in their love for something since... well, probably Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back.

Star Wars: Jedi Knights issue 1 dropped yesterday, the first issue in a Marvel Comics series that's set to explore the backstories of each and every Jedi that was alive directly before the events of The Phantom Menace.

The first issue directly focuses on all of our favourite prequel heroes too, including Qui-Gon Jinn, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Yoda and Mace Windu.

And, surprisingly enough, the first issue seems to have done something that no other piece of Star Wars media has done in a very, very long time - it’s earned unanimous praise from the community.

Over on the r/starwarscomics subreddit, almost every single comment has nothing but positive things to say about Star Wars: Jedi Knights’ first issue.

“Great first issue. Awesome art, great spotlight on old characters and some really cool very prequelesque designs for the new characters - especially Vetna Mooncrest,” commented user HeartOfASkywalker.

“The new aliens didn’t just feel generic and brown either. Story was good at weaving in different plot lines efficiently without feeling rushed.”

“This issue actually surprised me with just how good it was. As others have said, the art was absolutely fantastic, definitely some of the best artwork we've seen in a Star Wars comic in a while,” replied user Nevic1984.

“I really enjoyed the beginning of this story too. We got both an episodic one with the civil war, plus an ongoing mystery with Qui-Gon. I'm wondering if the whole series will follow that formula. I also like the new characters introduced too, fantastic start so far.”

Thankfully it seems like we won’t have to wait too long to find out what happens next either, as issues will be dropping monthly - with issue 2 of Star Wars: Jedi Knights dropping on April 9.
