Star Wars brings back Kylo Ren and Darth Vader for new series

Darth Vader and Kylo Ren are making a return to comic books with a new Marvel series that will see Ren investigating past moments from Vader’s life.

Star Wars: The Legacy of Vader sees Kylo Ren walking the path his grandfather once took, exploring what made Darth Vader the villain he became.

Kylo Ren made his debut in The Force Awakens and carried on the legacy of Darth Vader.

The second issue, which has just recently been previewed by Marvel Comics, shows Ren visiting Tattooine.

Issue two picks up a thread shown in the previous issue, which saw Vader return to his home planet to murder Watto.

There’s a long and storied history between Vader and Watto, as the latter held young Anakin Skywalker and his mother Shmi as slaves.

Throughout the pages of the comic, Kylo Ren is told that Tatooine is important to the history of Vader, and we get flashback scenes of Vader, in full armour, confronting Watto.

We’ll also get more details on the murder of the Tuskan Raiders who killed Anakin’s mother, then flashes to Anakin winning the Pod Racing championships.

All of this will piece together, in more detail, the early life of Anakin, before he fully turned to the dark side.

While we as readers already know a great deal about Vader’s life, this is the first time Kylo Ren will discover his grandfather was once a slave.

Of course, this will go on to fuel the hatred inside Ren, who went on to attempt to emulate Vader’s grand plans, despite the villain’s redemption at the end of Return of the Jedi.

The comic’s first issue has already been very popular as it retreads important moments from Star Wars canon, and issue two will carry on that path, perhaps revealing even more about the life of Vader we’ve not seen on screen.
