Star Wars fans are horrified by the alternate ending to Revenge of the Sith that we all forgot about.
The concluding part of George Lucas’ Star Wars prequel trilogy was iconic for many reasons, including seeing Anakin Skywalker’s final descent to the Dark Side of the Force.
It’s been 20 years since Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith’s dark and twisted ending, and while it still remains one of the most iconic endings of sci-fi cinema, it turns out there’s an alternate ending that is equally horrifying.

If you’re old enough to remember the release of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith, you might remember it had an official tie-in video game where you could play the events of the film while playing as either Anakin or Obi-Wan.
The game has two endings: the canon one that we see in the movie, where Obi-Wan slices up Anakin then leaves him on Mustafar, and an alternate ending where Anakin beats his former master.

In this ending, Anakin manages to kill Obi-Wan, and is then given a red lightsaber by Emperor Palpatine.
Without a moment’s notice, he uses the new lightsaber to cut down the Emperor, and claims the galaxy for himself.
The ending you get depends on which character you play as, so playing as Obi-Wan gets you the canon ending while playing as Anakin gives you the alternate one.
It’s pretty dark, but we’re glad it’s not the official ending for Revenge of the Sith. It’s just a fun little non-canon scene for those who play through the final level twice.

Still, it does pose the question of how the rest of the Star Wars Skywalker saga might have gone if Obi-Wan had died on Mustafar.
It’s probably a good premise for Disney to commission a What If? show similar to Marvel.
