Star Wars Favourite Cal Kestis Has Finally Made His TV Debut

Cameron Monaghan returns, alongside Mark Hamill and Sam Witwer

Cal Kestis just made his official television debut this month on Disney+, and it seems like the majority of the fanbase completely missed it.

Ever since Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order first dropped back in 2019, fans have been desperate for Disney to incorporate its lead character, Cal Kestis, into a live-action Star Wars project.

Unlike a lot of Star Wars characters that originally appear in video games or comic books, a Cal Kestis appearance has a lot more precedence. After all, the developers at EA made a point of making Cal look (and, obviously, sound) exactly like Cameron Monaghan, so seeing him pop up in live-action seems like it was the plan from the start.

Plus, Cal’s story in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor takes place in a time period that isn’t too far detached from some of the latest live-action projects on Disney+. For instance, Ahsoka is set during 9 ABY (After Battle of Yavin), which is only 18 years after the events of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.

Unfortunately, while we don’t have any news on a live-action Cal Kestis appearance yet, he has finally popped up in a new Star Wars TV series– and, thankfully, he’s still voiced by Cameron Monaghan.

As detailed in an article by Comicbook's Jackson Hayes, Cal Kestis just made his Star Wars TV debut in a new Disney series (although it would seem that most of the fanbase had no idea it was even out yet).

LEGO Star Wars: Pieces of the Past, a sort of sequel to the 2024 mini-series LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy, just dropped on Disney+ earlier this month on September 19.

The non-canon LEGO series features a bunch of big names returning to reprise their roles, including Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker and Sam Witwer as Darth Maul. More excitingly, however, episode three also saw a cameo appearance from Cal Kestis.

Over in a thread on the r/StarWarsLeaks subreddit, most of the commenters are surprised that the show is already out, but those who have seen it seem pretty complimentary.

“It continues to be fantastic”, commented user Skeptical_Yoshi.

“Glad we managed to get a continued list of deep cuts and big first timers outside their medium. Jax, Cal, Mara, freaking REVAN. And the original characters continue to be great.”

“I really liked this. It possibly had every single one of my favorite Star Wars characters in one show”, replied user Chrispy_Kelloggs.

Hopefully, this is the first step towards getting Cal in some kind of live-action project, and not simply a throwaway cameo just to appease the fans.

It’s pretty clear that the fans want Cameron Monaghan on our screens in one way or another, so let’s hope Disney is taking note of all this happy feedback.
