Skyrim has just received a new expansion that you can download for free, and it adds hours of brand new content.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is the game that keeps on giving, with several official expansions under its belt, as well as thousands of fan-made mods and campaigns.

It essentially means that even after all the base game content has been dried up, you still have plenty of new experiences to try.

That’s why we’d recommend trying out Midnight Sun, a new fan-made campaign by Skyrim modder Kittytail. It’s got a little Dark Souls 3 inspiration, and is completely free to download now if you’re playing on PC.

Midnight Sun adds a new “multi-hour adventure” where you journey into a location called Boreal Valley with a travelling alchemist called Stella.

There’s new gear, spells, and items to find as well during your adventure, and Kittytail has said that “nothing is permanently missable”, so you’ll be able to play through the expansion without missing out on any content.

Check out a trailer for Midnight Sun below, which shows off some of the gorgeous new locations added in the mod, as well as some combat and other gameplay.

How to start Midnight Sun

Once you’ve installed Midnight Sun, open up the base game and head to the Moorside Inn in Morthal and find a book called “The Other Side, Vol. 1”. This will trigger the quest that begins the expansion.

“This has been one of my largest projects in quite some time. I allocated four full months for development and finished on the last day of the schedule,” wrote Kittytail regarding their latest release.

It appears that players are enjoying the mod, too.

As one player on the forum posts, “I love the spookiness, the crypts you can explore and most of all the castle design is brilliant.”

Meanwhile, another player posted that they “really liked the vibe of the mod, there seemed to be a lot of thought and effort put into the writing and all of the little details scattered around all of the locations.”

Many others have praised the mod’s new assets, custom voice acting, and beautiful locations as a reason to install the mod. You can pick it up now from the Skyrim Nexus Mods page. Unfortunately for console players, as is usually the case with player-made mods, this isn’t available on Xbox, PlayStation, or Nintendo Switch.
