Skyrim Lands New DLC Sized Free Mod, Adds Quests and Locations

A new journey awaits, what are you waiting for?

The Elder Scrolls VI isn’t set to land any time soon as far as we’re aware.

A newly emerged cryptic clue from Xbox has many theorising the highly anticipated Skyrim follow-up could land this year, but I’m not sure I see it myself. I think it’s healthier if we assume that we’re in this for the long haul, in which case, we’re going to need something to keep us occupied.

Bethesda is known for being a tad one-track minded, so I recommend The Elder Scrolls fans look to the world of modding for a distraction. Skyblivion is set to launch in 2026, which practically feels like its own game; a talented mod team has spent years remaking Oblivion within Skyrim’s engine.

In the meantime though, I highly suggest you check out the newly launched ‘The Heart of Winterroot’.

Developed by NexusMods user venjhammet, ‘The Heart of Winterroot’ is a DLC-inspired mod expansion which adds new locations, quests, dungeons, and enemies.

In this “nature-driven story”, you’ll join “the Wood Elf Larethil Sablewind to recover three corrupted Seedstones, restore the Winterroot Tree, and stop a twisted druid from bending nature to his will”.

That all sounds rather fun, if you ask me.

The mod is fully-voiced and you can begin its events by heading off to Mosslight Tower, a brand new location.

This is an abandoned Imperial Tower near Old Hroldan, west of Rorikstead.

Exploring this dungeon will kickstart events with the mod taking you to several other new locations including Wildwood Breach, Wildwood Grove, Feylight Grotto, and Mzulvarn.

Throughout the journey, players will “face corrupted spriggans, the twisted druid, and other deadly enemies while uncovering hidden secrets”.

“Only with Larethil Sablewind by your side can nature’s balance be restored,” the creator added.

There’s no advertised runtime for this mod, but it sounds decently sized so I’m imagining you’ll benefit from several new hours of gameplay at the very least.

It’s Gone Down Well With Fans

Curious to know what others think? “Great,” wrote one happy player.

“Thank you for continuing to give us such wonderful new adventures for Skyrim,” added another.

My favourite comment may be: “To quote the musical greats Huntr/X, THIS. IS. How it done done DONE. Excellent work, brother.”

You’ll need to be playing Skyrim on PC if you want to give this mod a go. If you tick that box, simply head over to NexusMods where you can download it for free.
