As the wait for The Elder Scrolls VI continues, fans will be able to enjoy a brand new release later this year.

One of last year’s biggest surprises was the shadow drop of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, Bethesda’s official remaster of the 2006 RPG classic.

It was a nice thing to tide us over while we wait for The Elder Scrolls VI, which is still potentially years away from seeing a release.

While that may be the case, there is still lots of Elder Scrolls content to look forward to, especially if you’re an Oblivion fan.

Skyblivion, the huge fan-made expansion that rebuilds the entirety of Cyrodiil into Skyrim’s engine, was meant to see a full release in 2025. However, when the developers weren’t able to meet that deadline, it was pushed back to 2026.

“As a project by fans, for fans, we need a little more time to ensure Skyblivion lives up to the standards you deserve. Our anticipated release window is moving into 2026,” the modding team wrote in December, releasing a video detailing the final progress needed to get it out the door.

Skyblivion Was Delayed To This Year

It’s disappointing news if you’re really excited about this project, but it’s not all bad. For starters, the Skyblivion team states that the final release is “closer than ever”, detailing that the main work left is to finish off the Imperial City, arguably the most iconic location in Cyrodiil.

It’s also released an interactive map for fans to check out ahead of time, showcasing all the locations that you’ll be able to visit when the mod eventually launches.

From the looks of it, Skyblivion will be adapting parts of the original Oblivion storyline while also being set during the events of Skyrim, creating a mix for fans of both games.

It’s a good reminder of the colossal amount of work involved in a mod of this stature, something that has been in the works since 2012 by a team of unpaid volunteers. We cover a lot of mods here at GAMINGbible, and yet this one might be the most ambitious one to ever see the light of day.

As for when that release date will be, it’s hard to say at the moment. With the project being so close to completion, I could see early 2026 being a good contender.

However, it really all depends on when the Skyblivion team is happy with the state of the mod before deeming it ready for release.
