It’s been a while since we got an update on The Callisto Protocol but alas, here we are and I’ll be real with you all. I’m feeling a little on edge about it. The Callisto Protocol was announced back at The Game Awards in 2020. Created by Dead Space developer Glen Schofield, the game is aiming to be "the single most scariest game for PC and consoles.”

The game is in development at Schofield’s new studio Striking Distance. Very much in the same ilk as Dead Space, The Callisto Protocol is set aboard the Black Iron Prison located on one of Jupiter’s moons, Callisto. We know very little else about the single-player experience, except that it’s guaranteed to offer a frightening time. Well, we now have a brand new look at one of the horrors that’ll be awaiting us aboard the Black Iron Prison.

Take a look at The Callisto Protocol's reveal trailer ... if you dare.

Schofield took to Twitter to share a close-up of one of The Callisto Protocol’s terrifying creatures and it certainly ticks the horrifying box. The oozing, veiny close-up very much reminds me of The Last of Us Part II’s Rat King which is a gaming foe that continues to haunt my nightmares to this day. Take a look below.

The picture wasn’t the only exciting update as Schofield wrote, “If you don’t already follow CallistoTheGame, now might be a good time to start. Look for some news next week. Until then, here’s a closeup of one of the creatures from our world class character team. They’re incredible. Happy Friday the 13th! Get ready.”

Whether you’re ready for an update or not, it looks like one is coming next week. Personally, I might find a nice cheery spot and think happy thoughts, but if you’re brave enough to enter the dark work of The Callisto Protocol, you have my respect.
