Seth Rogen has promised the upcoming sequel to Sausage Party will be even more “shocking” than the original R-rated animated comedy.

Sausage Party was released in 2016, resulting in commercial success and a lot of angry critics. The film landed itself in hot water for its vulgar comedy and scenes that were just too much for some viewers. Regardless, it was a highly-successful film, quickly becoming the highest-performing animated comedy with an R-rating, grossing $141.3 million at the box office.

Take a look at the original Sausage Party in action below.

Now, a sequel is on the way, in the form of an eight-part TV series called Sausage Party: Foodtopia. Creator Seth Rogen has stated the switch to television came about from the film industry being “completely dead”, going on to say, “TV is the forever king of entertainment. We’ve decided to continue the epic adventures of our culinary crew in the soon-to-be-legendary televised masterpiece Sausage Party: Foodtopia.”

Rogen recently shared some details on what fans can expect from the sequel, saying it’ll be even more shocking than the film, reportedly featuring “all the heart, double the puns and triple the food-on-food sex. In other words, it’s exactly what the world needs right now.”

He also promised one scene, in particular, will be a talking point amongst fans, saying: “You should all just start wrapping your heads around this now. You’ll probably have to talk about this a lot.”

The series brings back many of the original cast, including Seth Rogen himself, Kristen Wiig, Michael Cera, David Krumholtz, and Edward Norton. New characters will also be making their debut, with Will Forte, Sam Richardson, Natasha Rothwell, and Yassir Lester joining the cast.

Sausage Party: Foodtopia will debut on Amazon Prime Video in 2024. A specific release date is yet to be confirmed.
