Justin Roiland, one of the creators of Rick & Morty, has revealed his new sci-fi first-person shooter in the the Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase 2022 and it is expectedly... odd.

Titled High on Life, the game follows the central character as they track their marks across the galaxy, befriending and beheading a colourful cast of characters (literally). "Bounty hunters will travel between planets during their adventure, visiting memorable locations like a dense and dangerous jungle, a city built deep inside an asteroid, and a variety of other dynamic and changing worlds," read the press release from studio Squanch Games (cheers, Polygon).

"Players will run into dangerous local wildlife, help (or help) a bunch of alien weirdos, and test their mettle against a variety of Hunter Challenges. And you’ll never be alone because your guns talk!" Oh yes, the guns not only have their own abilities that give the character the edge in combat, they also boast their own personalities, unique extras, and will even comment on what's going on in the surroundings. I suppose that isn't super helpful if you've got a chatty gun on your arm while you're attempting a stealthy takedown.

“I wanted to make games that I wanted to play, and that was the spark that sort of lit the fire of Squanch Games.” Roiland continued in the announcement. “Then we shipped Trover [Saves the Universe], we shipped Accounting+, and now we’re on this absolute dream game that we were kind of building towards this whole time.”

High on Life is coming to PC, Xbox Series X and Xbox One.
