One of the best Resident Evil games is getting a surprise release later this year.

When it comes to survival horror, few do it better than the Capcom series, Resident Evil. Since the release of the original in 1996, it has been one of the pioneers of the genre and is still going strong today.

In 2002, we were treated to one of the best remakes of all time with Resident Evil on the Nintendo GameCube. Capcom would release another successful remake in 2019 with Resident Evil 2, offering a new take on the 1998 classic for both veteran and new fans alike.

The success of the Resident Evil 2 remake was perhaps the inspiration for other remakes that followed, namely Dead Space, Alone in the Dark and more recently, Silent Hill 2. Now, over five years since its release, the Resident Evil 2 remake is heading to compatible iPhone, iPad and Mac devices.

That being said, the Resident Evil 2 port on Apple devices follows in the footsteps of Resident 7: Biohazard, Resident Evil Village as well as the Resident Evil 4 remake, and it’s fair to say that those ports shared the same level of success as its PC and console counterparts.

Prepare to help Leon and Claire escape a zombie-riddled nightmare when Resident Evil 2 releases later in 2024 for iPhone 15 Pro models and every iPad and Mac with the M1 chip or later!

While each of the ports looks visually impressive, the clustered touch controls aren't exactly the prettiest thing we’ve ever seen and could even get in the way of the on-screen action.

Interestingly, the screenshots shared on the Apple Store do not show the on-screen touch controls, probably for obvious reasons. As a massive Resident Evil fan, I’ll be rooting for RE2 to have a lot more success than its mobile predecessors.

Resident Evil 2 is expected to be released on Apple devices by 31 December 2024 but no price has been confirmed at the time of writing.
