Horror fans can get their hands on a new gruesome adventure, showing a lot of promise, with a new demo available on Steam.

Brutal historical fiction is the backdrop to Shadow Project, which takes players to the fall of the Soviet Union, throwing in plenty of horrible creatures to avoid or take down.

Players can grab the demo on Steam, right now, and venture into the darkness of this horrific take on Eastern Europe, filled with two-headed creepies that are intent on feasting on your skin.

There are shades of BioShock here, with hidden human experimentation taking place behind the scenes, and now it seems those creatures are roaming the USSR.

It’s up to us to find out the secrets of the Shadow Project, and hopefully survive while we dig into dark mysteries, equipped with whatever we can find along the way.

It should come as no surprise to find inspiration pulled from the likes of Resident Evil here, as it’s such a beacon for survival horror creators.

Set in 1990, a team of American soldiers has infiltrated the USSR, tasked with taking down Russian facilities filled with dark and dangerous experiments.

Having only looked over the trailer and screenshots, Shadow Project reminds me of the F.E.A.R series, which also merged military might with scary moments.

Using open level design, players will be able to explore various locations, including the labs of nefarious scientists, but also the more remote areas of Russia.

Armed with unique loadouts for each mission, there will be a mix of action moments and isolated scenes brimming over with tension.

There’s no release date for Shadow Project yet, but if you enjoy what you see in the demo, it’s worth adding the game to your wishlist to keep an eye on updates from the studio.
