For those of you who are eagerly awaiting the arrival of Resident Evil 9, it seems like we could be in for a longer wait than we originally thought.

The Resident Evil series is one of the most iconic properties in video game history and in recent years, it seems like survival horrors' favourite child is becoming more popular than ever following the success of several quality remakes and sequels.

Check out the Resident Evil 4 trailer below!

The most recent entry in the series is the 2023 remake of Resident Evil 4 and now fans are looking forward to the release of Resident Evil 9 (currently not its official name).

Last year, Capcom announced that a new Resident Evil game is in development and while no release date was announced, many fans hoped that it would arrive at some point this year.

When some games in the series are revealed (not all), such as Resident Evil 7: Biohazard and Resident Evil Village, they are released roughly a year later. However, judging by recent speculation, that might not be the case with Resident Evil 9.

As reported by ComicBook, industry insider Dusk Golem predicts with an “educated guess” that Resident Evil 9 might not be released until 2026.

This prediction was mentioned in a Twitter thread that also claims Resident Evil Zero is getting a remake and it could be exclusive to the Nintendo Switch 2 this year. If the Resident Evil Zero remake releases this year, it might be unlikely to expect Resident Evil 9 to also be released in 2025.

To be fair, it’s not outside the realm of possibility that Resident Evil Zero and Resident Evil 9 could be released in 2025. After all, both the original Resident Evil remake and Resident Evil Zero launched for the Nintendo GameCube in 2002.

Of course, it’s worth keeping in mind that this is mere speculation so we should take the words of Dusk Golem (no matter how reliable) with a pinch of salt until we get official confirmation by Capcom. But if we do get a remake of Resident Evil Zero this year followed by Resident Evil 9 in 2026, you won't hear me complaining.
