The survival horror genre is thriving at the moment, with plenty of new and revisited adventures to keep us awake at night.

Displacement, is a new first-person horror game, coming from Obelisk Studio, that seems to be pulling inspiration from all the bet places, including Resident Evil, and Dead Space.

Displacement is pressing all the right buttons with this trailer

Billed as an ultraviolent and gory adventure, Obelisk Studio are tapping into some incredibly creepy situations as they emulate isolation and fear through psychological horror.

In Displacement, you’ll play as a psychologist who arrives at a Polar station to assess the wellbeing of the crew, who seem to have succumbed to madness.

It’s safe to say, things don’t go well, and in the game’s trailer, we see lots of chaotic moments brimming over with insanity displayed by the workers, who seem to be losing their mids to something nefarious.

The trailer is packed with bone-crunching action, plenty of gore, and unsettling moments.

There’s a point where our hero steps into a room we assume to be destroyed and chaotic, only to find his daughter’s bedroom on the other side of the door.

We hear her eerie voice before being thrown back into the action, which looks frenetic and disturbing, in all the right ways.

Set up to riff off the feeling of Condemned, by way of other greats in the genre, Displacement will give players over 20 melee weapons to survive with.

There’s a lot of ice and fire flying about, which seems to come from improvised weapons, so perhaps there will be some kind of upgrade system to take advantage of the run-down station.

While watching the trailer, I couldn’t pull my eyes away - it had all the vibes we look for in the genre, with a taste of Dead Space and even a little BioShock thrown in, for good measure.
