When the original Red Dead Redemption was released in 2010, it not only became one of Rockstar Games’ greatest releases but also one of the greatest games of all time. On Metacritic alone, it garnered scores of 95 for both PS3 and Xbox 360, earning the “Must Play” accolade.

Eight years later, its highly anticipated sequel arrived earning even greater success and to this day, Red Dead Redemption 2 holds its own against most new-gen titles. However, the original game in the series also holds an added element of nostalgia and now that 13 years have passed, fans have been calling for a remake or even a remaster.

Fans nearly got their wish, as along with GTA IV, Rockstar Games reportedly had plans to remaster the original Red Dead Redemption. Sadly, in July 2022, rumours were making the rounds that Rockstar had cancelled both remasters.

Thankfully, as reported by GameSpot, while we still lick our wounds that the Red Dead Redemption remake might not ever arrive, a group of talented indie developers has taken matters into their own hands, giving us a taste of what we could be missing.

Despite this game not being playable (at least not yet), the fan-made Red Dead Redemption remake looks absolutely stunning powered by Unreal Engine 5. A trailer was uploaded to the Enfant Terrible YouTube channel, showcasing the beautiful landscapes of the remade western world as well as featuring protagonist, John Marston.

Hopefully, Rockstar Games will finally release a Red Dead Redemption remake or remaster, once it’s finished with GTA VI. We just wouldn't recommend holding your breath anytime soon.

In related news, rumours claim that an alleged cut feature from Red Dead Redemption 2 could be making its way into Grand Theft Auto VI.
