A Peaceful Run Of 'Red Dead Redemption 2' Will Still Have You Murder Over 1,000 People

Putting the dead in Red Dead Redemption

Can you be considered a good guy in Red Dead Redemption 2? I would say probably not.

You can tip your hat to ladies on the street and charm farmers with a jovial "hey mistah!" all you want, but the fact remains you're an outlaw. You kill. You steal. You hurt people.

But that's the big question behind Red Dead Redemption 2, isn't it? Is redemption ever truly out of reach? Is it ever too late to turn things around and try to be a better person?

The game's ending attempts to answer that very question, although the outcome is based entirely on your own actions and morals throughout the game. Unfortunately, as one player has worked out, even the kindest and most merciful versions of Arthur Morgan will have racked up a body count so disgustingly high that there can surely be no redemption.

Reddit user xoogavin kept count of Arthur's kills throughout Red Dead Redemption 2's story. To be clear, these are the kills they couldn't possibly avoid on the journey to the credits. No Stranger Missions were undertaken, and there were no diversions or random killing sprees. Aside from one or two ambushes out in the open world, each of these kills had to happen.

So what's the average kill count for the least bloodthirsty Arthur Morgan, you might ask? Over the game's six chapters, our sad cowboy racks up an outrageous 1,149. That is a lot of corpses.

To put that into context, that's more than three times the entire population of Fordwhich, the smallest village in England. If you stacked each of those bodies on top of one another... well, I'm not sure how high that'd be, but I'm willing to be there'd be a heck of a view at the top.

So there we have it. Proof that Arthur Morgan almost certainly didn't go to heaven at the end of Red Dead Redemption 2. Because saving John's live definitely doesn't outweigh the 1,149 he murdered along the way.
