Red Dead Redemption 2 console patch finally unlocks 60fps

Red Dead Redemption 2 console patch finally unlocks 60fps

A Red Dead Redemption 2 player has released a console patch that finally unlocks 60fps on PS4.

A Red Dead Redemption 2 player has released a console patch that finally unlocks 60fps on PlayStation 4.

Released in 2018, Red Dead Redemption 2 is a crown jewel amongst other crown jewels for developer Rockstar Games. Set before its predecessor in 2010 and improving on its formula in almost every way, there’s little doubt that RDR2 will go down as one of the greatest video games of all time.

To this day, fans still agree that Red Dead Redemption 2 looks incredible and some could argue that it even looks better than most new-gen titles. Yet, being backwards compatible on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, RDR2 should be taking advantage of new-gen bells and whistles, but sadly that is not the case.

At the time of writing, while the Xbox Series X|S version of RDR2 takes advantage of a native 4K (3840x2160p) output, it’s still locked at 30fps. However, on PS5, not only is it also locked at 30fps, but it only has a resolution of 1920x2160p, which is the exact same as the PS4 Pro.

The 5th anniversary of Red Dead Redemption 2 (26 October) is fast-approaching and surely this would offer an opportune time for Rockstar Games to finally release 60fps and 4K HDR support on PS5, right?

Rockstar Games has shown no sign of giving Red Dead Redemption 2 a proper new-gen update, but if that were to happen, it wouldn't surprise me if it got a standalone release, much like GTA V in 2022.

So while we wait for something that may not happen, as reported by Sportskeeda, a fan has taken matters into their own hands by releasing a mod that finally allows Red Dead Redemption 2 to run at 60fps on PS4.

The individual that we can thank for doing the work of the gaming gods, goes to illusion0001, and better still, not only does this mod unlock 60fps on PS4, but also for the PS5. Unfortunately, as Twitter user Ben.T once reported, you will need a jailbroken console to run the mod, which is strictly forbidden by Sony.

In related news, a petition has now garnered nearly 9,000 signatures calling for Rockstar Games to release DLC for Red Dead Redemption 2. What better way to celebrate the upcoming 5th anniversary of RDR2 than by releasing DLC and a new-gen patch? We live in hope.
