PlayStation 5 Shortages To Ease Up By 2024, Says Sony

In their recent financial presentation, Sony revealed that they expect the PS5's stock issues to be far less of a problem by around 2024.

You know, you really wouldn’t think that the PS5 had been out for over a year and a half given that it still feels like hardly anyone owns one. The sales figures suggest otherwise, of course, but as we all know, managing to secure one of these things at the regular retail price before they fly out of stock is another matter.

If you haven’t had any luck getting your hands on Sony’s fancy new-gen console just yet though, fear not. As reported by PC Gamer, in their latest financial presentation, Sony acknowledged the prevalence of supply issues, but revealed that they expect that this will eventually be a thing of the past. You unfortunately might be waiting a while for that to happen, though.

For anyone who does have a PS5, though, there's some undeniably great games on there - take a look at the best so far below.

One of the presentation slides, titled “PS5 Supply Issues: A Top Priority” showed on a graph that the PS4 outsold the PS5 last year due to supply constraints. While it’s expected that the new-gen console’s third year of life will close the gap between sales of the PS5 and PS4, it’s only projected that the PS5 will overtake on sales by its fourth year (2024), which is presumably when Sony imagines that the problems customers have been facing trying to buy one will be gone.

Late last year, the head of Intel, Pat Gelsinger, revealed that the global chip shortage (the main issue affecting the stock of new-gen consoles) could go on into 2023, so the numbers all line up there. Sony also outlined a couple of measures they have in progress right now to help with the supply issues, including sourcing multiple market suppliers, and ongoing negotiations to maintain optimal delivery routes.

It’s definitely not great that fans could have been waiting for four years to buy a console before things are finally readily available, but at least there’s some sort of end to it in sight. Hopefully things aren’t much worse when the inevitable (but at the moment, unofficial) PS5 Pro launches at some point in the future.
