'Prey' Interesting Post-Credit Scene Seemingly Hints At A Sequel

According to analysis of a cryptic post-credits teaser, there might be a sequel to Prey on the horizon. Given the boisterously warm welcome the new movie has gotten from longtime fans and horror buffs alike, this could only be good news.

Spoilers for Prey follow, so click away now if you've not seen the film yet.

Historically, the Predator franchise has suffered from something that I like to call "just not being very good films-itis." However, Prey turns back time to the 18th century in the Comanche Nation, following the protagonist Naru as she wishes to prove herself as formidable a hunter as her brother. Unbeknownst to the Comanche, a Predator has arrived on the planet, intending to use its highly advanced alien weaponry and technology against its quarry.

Obviously, it's not curtains for Naru, and she dispatches the Predator, daubing her face with its blood and proffering its severed head to her people. The story of Naru's courage and shrewdness is depicted in indigenous paintings over the course of the credits of the film, but there's a strange change that seems to suggest that the battle is not over yet.

While we saw Naru and the Comanche celebrate the death of the Predator and the scene ends, the paintings show three more Predator ships appear in the sky. It's possible, therefore, that the next Prey film will show Naru's fight against another three aliens, but director Dan Trachtenberg has been careful to keep his cards close to his chest.

"We have a lot of thoughts," he said to Syfy Wire in an interview. “How could we ever turn off the thoughts about fun and exciting things? But certainly what was really exciting about the [credits sequence] was what would be in any other movie, an end tag, a live-action tag [in addition to the credits]. That our end credit sequence actually has a story point in it, I think is really awesome.”
