'Predator' Had A Prequel Long Before 'Prey', And It's Brilliant

Templar knights take on the advanced alien in this short film.

Predator: Dark Ages is a prequel to Predator where a band of Templars and a Muslim soldier are tracking a bloodthirsty beast in England, and it's actually an awesome watch.

If you've somehow sidestepped the sheer hype that Prey has drummed up for the franchise, then you're sorely missing out. The film follows Naru, a skilled Comanche hunter, as she and her people encounter a strange being with unique weapons that is killing off both Native Americans and colonists indiscriminately. It's now the highest rated Predator film in the entire canon and actor Amber Midthunder has knocked the socks off fans and critics.

Check out the trailer for Prey, which is hiding not one but two nods to God Of War, here!

“We'd hope that this doesn't prove to be our only outing in the 18th century for the Predator franchise. But if Prey is a one-and-done, then it's even better than Predator fans could have ever dreamed of," said Digital Spy. It seems to show that a timey-wimey twist on the Predator standard works well, as Predator: Dark Ages was met with feverish praise when it was released in 2015.

From writer and director James Bushe, the group of Templars and a Muslim warrior are tasked with tracking and eliminating a "djinn" that is terrorising English settlements, following a sizeable donation from the village to the Church. Tensions mount as it soon becomes evident that the creature is very comfortable hunting in its strange environment... well, I won't spoil it all. All you need to know is that there's something effortlessly badass about seeing a swordfight between an advanced alien and a knight on a vengeful rampage.
