The Pokémon Card Game Is Getting An Official New Version

“I’ll use my trusty frying pan, as a drying pan.”

Ever since lockdown, Pokémon cards have become ever more popular. Since the resurgence people have gone to great lengths to get their hands on their favourite cards.

The majority of people who collect them do so for the cute pictures, the thrill of the draw, and the pure nostalgia of the ordeal; without ever knowing how to actually play the trading card game. Some are attracted by the idea of flipping them in order to make a profit, while others simply want to admire the beauty of their classic rare shiny Charizard, or the elegance of Magikarp from Pokémon Snap. The truth is you can enjoy doing those sweet pulls from those beloved booster packs without ever learning the rules.

If you want to learn the new way to play the Pokémon TCG then watch the video below.

The Pokémon Company appears to be eager to see card collectors actually playing the game which they are for. The regular game can get a little complicated if you are looking to build the perfect deck complete with counters to common strategies, so they have now announced a new way to play.

The new version of the TCG uses regular cards, but has a focus more on catching the Pokémon rather than defeating them. The rules are much simpler, as this way to play appears to be aimed at a younger audience. In the game they call Poké Catch, both players pull from the same deck of Energy cards, and then use those cards to catch wild Pokémon. You don’t actually use any of the Pokémon you catch. More, you are trying to build your collection with different types of ‘mons.

While it’s not the deepest way to play Pokémon, if you are looking for an easier way to actually play with the cards you are spending all that money on, then this version might be worth giving a whirl.
