PlayStation 5 Slim Model Appears Online, And It's A Thing Of Beauty

It's so smol...

The PlayStation 5 is just weeks away from launch, and it's safe to say most of us are pretty excited to welcome the next-gen console into our homes. The only (small) catch is that it might be just a wee bit bigger than many of us were expecting.

Yes, various journalists and influencers already have their hands on the PS5, and we've been spoilt with a deluge of new photos and videos showing the console off in various homes. But the upshot of seeing the PS5 in these everyday settings rather than the ice white voids that Sony had thus far advertised in is that we finally have a sense of how big the damn thing is.

Is it too big? That's for you to decide. I will embrace my chunky son and make sure there's a place for him in my house, and I fully understand that it's beastly size is a result of the advanced cooling system which, by all accounts, will ensure that our consoles don't overheat and start to sound like rocket engines. That's fine with me.

Of course most of us are aware that the vast majority of PlayStation models are eventually followed by sleeker numbers. The OG PlayStation had the PS1, as I'm sure you recall. Later on, the monstrous PS3 almost halved its size when it was reborn as the PS3 Slim, and the PS4 pulled off a similar trick with its own Slim model.

While we can't say with 100% certainty that the PS5 will get a Slim model, I'd put good money on it arriving by 2022/2023. In the meantime, we just have to imagine what one might look like... although thanks to a gorgeous PS5 Slim concept knocked up by the talented folk over at Let's Go Digital, we don't have to imagine all that hard.

Take a look at the PS5 Slim concept in the video below, or via this link. Notice how it manages to retain the sci-fi curviness of the official model while keeping things nice and tight. You could fit this right in your pocket... if you had frighteningly massive pockets.

As great as this concept is, making it a reality would obviously be another issue entirely. There's clearly a lot going on up in the guts of the next-gen console, and making it quite as sleek as the above design would clearly be quite a challenge. Here's hoping it's one Sony can rise to in the next few years.
