In what is one of the worst-kept secrets in recent times, Sony seems to be on the verge of releasing a brand-new console.

Ever since the original PlayStation, Sony has released at least one version of that current-gen console, whether it be a slimmer model or a more powerful beast, such as the last-generation PS4 Pro.

Check out our review of the PlayStation 5 below!

We’ve heard for months now that Sony plans on releasing both a PlayStation 5 Pro and Slim for this current generation, though we’ve not heard anything official from the company yet. It’s of course worth talking unconfirmed rumours with a pinch of salt, but I am also a firm believer in there being no smoke without fire.

Back in May 2023, there were reports that Sony’s apparent PS5 Pro would command a price as high as £700, which certainly left some fans sweating. What’s more, previous reports also claimed that the PS5 Pro would be released sometime in 2024.

Furthermore, as a result of the recent court battle in the US between Microsoft and FTC over the Activision Blizzard takeover, Microsoft announced on Sony’s behalf that it intends to release the PS5 Slim by the end of the year for a price of around $300.

Well, perhaps adding some validation to all the previous rumours, the ‘first look’ of the rumoured PlayStation 5 Slim has appeared online. Again, it’s worth taking the below image with a pinch of salt, as anything is possible with Photoshop nowadays.

“Here's the first look at the PlayStation 5 (CFI-2016) "Slim",” tweeted Andrew Marmo, formerly of developer Wired Productions and media outlet, VGC.

Hopefully, now it seems that the cat is apparently out of the proverbial bag, Sony might put us all out of our misery and officially announce the PlayStation 5 Slim in the coming weeks.

It’s entirely possible that Sony might make the big reveal during its next PlayStation Direct event, whenever that may be. As they say, watch this space.
