Late last week Sony introduced a cool new feature for PlayStation 5 owners called Game Trials. As the name suggests, PS5 owners now have the chance to download certain first-party games and try them out, completely free of charge, for a limited time.
At the time of writing, there are two games available to check out: Death Stranding Director's Cut and Sackboy: A Big Adventure. On the one hand, this is an awesome idea. You can play Death Stranding for six hours and Sackboy for five while you work out whether or not the game is right for you. Unfortunately, Sony has managed to give with one hand and take away with the other.
See, these Game Trials come with a pretty big catch. According to the small print, your timed trials starts from the moment you hit download. It doesn't matter that you're not playing the game or that you're waiting for it to install before you can actually try it out. That effectively means that if Death Stranding takes two hours to download and install, you then have to make sure you have four hours spare to enjoy it.

This has, understandably, been met with some pretty vocal pushback from PS5 players.

It remains to be seen whether or not Sony will address this feedback and at least make it so that the trial countdown starts from the moment the game is installed, but I wouldn't bank on it. This is most likely a case of PS5 users having to take what they're given.
