If you've been following the gaming news at all this week, you'll know that Microsoft has absolutely dominated the conversation.

On Tuesday, Microsoft announced it plans to buy Call Of Duty publisher Activision Blizzard for nearly $69 billion. It's the largest acquisition the video game industry has ever seen, and one that has huge implications going forward.

Naturally, the fact that Xbox now effectively owns massive franchises like Call Of Duty, Overwatch, World Of Warcraft, and Crash Bandicoot didn't reflect brilliantly on Team PlayStation. In the space of a day, nearly $20 billion was wiped from Sony's market value.

The company's shares will of course recover, but it's hard not to feel like Sony needs to do something in response to Microsoft's massive news. Maybe show off a new exclusive, for example? Or flag up a highly requested PlayStation feature.

For now, Sony is staying calm and staying the course, but it looks like some big announcements are coming soon.

Reddit user jankesjt recently discovered they could link their Discord profile to their PlayStation Network account, suggesting that the long-awaited Discord/PlayStation integration is incoming.

Sony first announced Discord integration back in May last year, but this is the first real indication we've had that it's finally set to be rolled out. While hardly as momentous as buying up the company that makes Call Of Duty, Discord is still hugely popular, and users will no doubt welcome the opportunity to link their accounts up with their PlayStation gaming antics.

“At PlayStation, we’re constantly looking for new ways to enable players around the world to connect with one another, form new friendships and communities, and share fun experiences and lasting memories," PlayStation boss Jim Ryan said of the partnership back in May.

“Our goal is to bring the Discord and PlayStation experiences closer together on console and mobile starting early next year, allowing friends, groups, and communities to hang out, have fun, and communicate more easily while playing games together.”

Hopefully we'll get official confirmation and dates in the coming weeks.
