Comic Linking 'God Of War 3' And Kratos' 2018 Adventure Releasing Soon

The PlayStation 4's God of War of 2018 sure was a very good game - indeed, here it is in our own top 20 games of all time - but long-term fans of the action series could have been forgiven for wondering why protagonist and professional angry man Kratos had relocated from Greek climes to Norse surroundings. As someone who'd also played God of War III before starting the more recent game, I was also a little, huh?

Of course, there were hints in the 2018 game's narrative, but nothing substantial, nothing explicitly - and the game's director, Cory Barlog, even said at the time of God of War's release that the missing information would have to be filled in by ancillary media. It's a connection that's "super relevant," he told Gamingbolt, but specifics have remained hard to come by.

Or rather, they were hard to come by, as a new comic has emerged that connects the dots between the third main-series game, and the fourth. As IGN reports, the four-part God of War: Fallen God tells the story of Kratos after he beat Zeus to death and seemingly killed himself before Athena, at the end of 2010's PlayStation 3-released God of War III.

The game teased his survival - confirmed with 2018's title, and now expanded upon by the Dark Horse-published Fallen God comic. IGN's preview of the first issue doesn't reveal an awful lot in its few pages, but a description of the four-issue series reads as follows:

"God of War: Fallen God follows Kratos after conquering Zeus and thwarting Athena. Believing himself to be finally free of his bondage, he sets sail for the desert in an attempt to distance himself from his home and his shame only to find his rage and guilt follow close behind. Kratos rages against the one foe that has proven to be unconquerable - himself. But a war against oneself is unwinnable, and only invites madness."

The first issue of God of War: Fallen God will be available from March 10th. In totally related God of War news, apparently Nick Offerman makes a good live-action Kratos (it's just the beard, isn't it), and the sequel to God of War - as in, the follow-up to the 2018 game - might well slip from a 2021 release into 2022. Colour us wholly unsurprised, if that happens.
