So at this point it seems like we might never actually get to play Grand Theft Auto VI, as the developer continues to push the launch date back amidst reports of union busting and problems with the scale and ambition of the game.

With that seemingly perpetual disappointment, we have to look elsewhere to get our crime-based kicks, and where better to get those than with Rockstar's last major title in the series.

Specifically, and possibly as a bit of an apology for the second delay to GTA VI, Rockstar Games confirmed that players would be able to enjoy the thrills and wonders of GTA Online between now and 17 November for free.

GTA Online Free For Everyone

Over on Twitter/X, they shared the following statement on their official profile confirming the news, "Play GTA Online for free on PS5 or Xbox Series X|S, now thru Nov 17.

"Experience the dynamic and ever-evolving online universe where you can rise from street-level hustler to kingpin of your own criminal empire. No PS Plus or Game Pass Essential required."

The latter part of that sentence is probably the most exciting part of the whole thing, cutting out the monthly subscription cost we normally need to pay to play online with others.

Though it has been out for well over a decade at this point, GTA Online remains a remarkably popular choice amongst players and you'll find yourself with a ton of play options when you get in there.

The mode features eight major heists to complete, as well as a ton of other mini-games, missions and free roam features that still make it one of the more compelling multiplayer offerings out there in 2025, if insane chaos is your kind of thing.

If you find yourself thoroughly addicted after the free trial period ends, Rockstar has just launched their own subscription service in GTA+, a premium membership that has been set up in preparation for the next era of the game.

As well as letting you in to play more without the base single-player game, it also grants access to plenty of digital rewards, including additional funds for your character, special amenities at the Vinewood Club, enhanced CEO and VIP perks and a rotating monthly offering of other benefits.

Lastly, you also get access to other Rockstar Games from the past, including the original Red Dead Redemption, older GTA titles and fun individual efforts like L.A. Noire and Bully.

The offer is available right now, so you don't need to wait if you're looking to jump on and play.
