PlayStation Discord Integration Is Coming Very Soon

The integration has been in the works since May last year, and it looks like it's ready to go.

So, how about that PlayStation and Discord integration? The partnership was first announced in May last year, and things have been very quiet since, despite the teams already being “hard at work” at the time. Well, it seems like it could be upon us very soon.

First spotted by Reddit user u/jankesjt, one Discord user has actually managed to straight up link a PlayStation Network account to their profile. In the now locked thread, the user posted a screenshot of the Discord connections section, in which you can see the PlayStation Network icon sitting pretty alongside the others we know and love, like Spotify, Steam, Twitch, Xbox and YouTube.

It’s worth noting here that this wasn’t in the current Discord client - apparently the user who linked their accounts was able to do so by using unused files found in the beta version. A little extra exploration into this same code also suggests that the integration will allow users to display what PlayStation games they’re currently playing, although this isn’t really all that surprising, given that the Xbox integration first introduced in 2018 does the same thing. Still cool, though.

Back in May, when the integration plans were first announced, Jim Ryan, the president and CEO of PlayStation, said: “At PlayStation, we’re constantly looking for new ways to enable players around the world to connect with one another, form new friendships and communities, and share fun experiences and lasting memories.

“Our goal is to bring the Discord and PlayStation experiences closer together on console and mobile starting early next year, allowing friends, groups, and communities to hang out, have fun, and communicate more easily while playing games together.”

Discord hasn’t been in everyone’s good books lately, though. Back in November, the platform faced backlash after rumoured plans to integrate crypto wallets into the service. The founder and CEO, Jason Citron, reassured users at the time that there were “no current plans” to do so.
