Starfield is fast approaching, leaving PlayStation and Switch users with a big dilemma - finally cave and buy a new-gen Xbox, or sit back and suffer through months of FOMO?

It’s a tricky one. As we all know, consoles don’t come cheap - in fact, the Xbox Series X is set to permanently increase in price next month, making Microsoft’s high-powered new-gen beast even more expensive. Thankfully though, we still have the Xbox Series S to fall back on - it might not be as powerful as its pricey counterpart, and it might not be able to read game discs, but it’s also significantly less impactful on any gamer’s bank account. A worthy trade-off.

Take a look at the story trailer for Starfield right here.

Normally, an Xbox Series S costs around £249.99, which is way less than the Series X at £449.99 (soon to be £479.99). However, at the time of writing on Amazon, you can grab one for even less, giving you an even cheaper option for a dedicated Starfield machine.

Right now, a certified refurbished Series S costs just over £203, which is quite a steal. To be clear, yes, this is a pre-owned console, but as Amazon states, it’s been put through a “rigorous certification process” to make sure that everything is working as it should be - at worst, there could just be some cosmetic damage.

If you don’t want to buy from Amazon, certified refurbished Series S consoles can also be bought from Xbox directly, but they start at £209.99, so Amazon is still currently the slightly cheaper option. You can find the listing right here.

Starfield will run at 30fps on both Series S and X, so in terms of frame rate, you won’t be missing out by playing it on the cheaper of the two consoles. However, it’ll display at 1440p as opposed to 4K on the Series X, so keep that in mind if resolution is important to you.

There’s less than two months to go until the launch of Starfield - it’ll be out and in gamers’ hands on 6 September.
