Xbox just revived the Xbox 360 in the year of our lord 2024

What a time to be alive!

Ignore the date on your calendar, for today feels like we’ve travelled back to the early 00s thanks to Xbox.

Some of you will be too young to remember what the early days of the Xbox 360 were like, but people like me remember because we were there.

As wonderful as video game advancements have been, we still pine for some of the old ways.

We’ll never get back the soon-to-be deceased Xbox 360 Store (RIP), yet we can feel as if the 360 is alive and going strong thanks to this new theme.

Do you recall the ‘blades’ dashboard?

We can't wait to play Avowed on our Xbox, what about you?

Such a simple design, yet many would argue that it’s by far one of the most user-friendly themes Microsoft has created.

Back when someone asked why players loved this theme so much, one Redditor spoke of the “nostalgia” it evoked, as well as its efficiency. “Blades was efficient,” they said, and few would disagree.

Like with so many things, the original theme was short-lived, having soon been overhauled and replaced by 2008.

But it was never forgotten; not by us, not by Xbox.

The throwback to the good ol’ days will now be available as a dynamic background option.

It’s not a true replica of the 360 design, however, it does the job of giving the nostalgia itch a little scratch.

Consider this a parting gift for when all 360 titles leave the Xbox marketplace in its final hurrah on 29 July.

A theme in exchange for purchasable games doesn’t quite equate in value, but we’ll let it slide for now.

The blades wallpaper doesn’t need to be downloaded; simply go into the “dynamic backgrounds” settings and select the appropriate option.

We've lost so much, with more losses yet to come, bt today we take back what was stolen. Isn’t it magnificent!
