Xbox finally getting a remake we've waited decades for

It has been an age

You’d be forgiven if you had forgotten that Age of Mythology: Retold is coming out very soon. It’s flying under the radar.

As a remake of the original Age of Mythology, this remake will be coming to Xbox consoles and it’s coming to Xbox Game Pass.

It's not long until Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is upon us and brings back classic zombies

It will be a complete reimagining of the original title and come with gamepad controls, though it does release for PC also.

As a big fan of the original, I’m eager to see how this plays and whether it’s a faithful replication.

I lost many hours to Age of Mythology trying to see all of the mythological beasts and raise the best army and society that I could.

The game comes from developer World’s Edge “the creators of the award-winning Age of Empires franchise, Age of Mythology: Retold goes beyond history to a mythical age where gods, monsters, and humans collide.”

It’s an interesting take on the strategy genre, mixing historical accuracy with legends and myths.

22 years have passed since the original and fans have been waiting all that time, so expectations are high.

Oddly, Microsoft doesn’t seem to be shouting from the rooftops about this one despite it being a first-party release.

Perhaps it’s because they know that the strategy audience is quite small, but the friendly controls combined with the adventurous mythological setting could sway some players.

I’m eager to see if they’ve managed to recapture the magic while still keeping the challenge that we saw the first time around.

Age of Mythology: Retold will be coming to both Xbox Series S and Series X, along with PC if you’d prefer good old mouse and keyboard controls.

You can start playing on 4 September, unless you pay for the premium upgrade which gives you early access to the game on 28 August.
