Xbox lowering price, issuing refunds following backlash

Lots of regrets

Xbox is making a big change, based on major player feedback and backlash, and will be not only reducing the price of The Outer Worlds 2, but refunding those who have already pre-ordered it.

The Outer Worlds 2 is set to be one of the biggest action RPGs coming from the studios under the guiding hand of Xbox and Microsoft.

It’s one of the most anticipated games by many, knowing that it’s coming from an established and well-celebrated studio, Obsidian Entertainment.

However, when the price was announced for the game, a few months ago, it landed to cries of outrage throughout the industry.

In a step to raise the prices of all Xbox mainline games, Microsoft gave The Outer Worlds 2 an $80 price tag.

Yeah, ouch. Nobody liked that, and fans made themselves heard across social media and message boards.

Despite Microsoft making billions of dollars every year, and buying some of the biggest studios out there for market domination, they wanted to squeeze extra pennies out of consumers.

Thankfully, the big cheeses over there listened to complaints and today issued a statement saying, “We’re focused on bringing players incredible worlds to explore, and will keep our full priced holiday releases, including The Outer Worlds 2, at $69.99 – in line with current market conditions.”

It’s also noted that, if you’ve already paid for your copy of the game, you will be able to receive a refund, then pre-order it again at the lower price point.

Seemingly, Microsoft realised what a silly move it is to request even more money from players when wages aren’t increasing, utility bills are going up, and the price of food isn’t as low as it was.

Now, if only they’d stop firing staff and closing studios because of their short-sighted tactics and incessant need to please shareholders.
