Discord has grown in popularity over the years and, for many, has become an app they use daily. Communication is a big thing for gamers, not only when playing games, but also to stay social.

Slowly, we’ve seen Discord become integrated into consoles despite the hardware already having chat functionality, and this is due to the vast number of people who use Discord.

However, Microsoft are going one step further and are partnering with Discord to bring streaming to the Xbox consoles.

If you’re already a Discord user you’ll know that you can stream gameplay to your friends online using the service.

Now this option is coming to Xbox and you’ll be able to watch any Discord stream right there on your console.

Xbox Insiders are the first users to get their hands on this new functionality and can see the option to watch someone’s stream when opening the Discord app.

If your friends are streaming, it will appear as a channel to join, and you’ll have all the options you’d usually have, like volume control.

This is a great step in the right direction and will give players much more versatility in how they communicate and interact with friends while gaming.

This news comes with updates that Microsoft and Discord will also be working on better functionality of person-to-person calls without the need for a server, while also letting users see more information about their friends, such as their gamertags.

These steps are showing that gaming isn’t as much of a closed circle as it once was, and perhaps means that we’ll see more features in the future.

There is so much more that players would love to get their hands on as this console generation grows and with Microsoft being more open to working with others, we could end up with plenty of options.
