Xbox officially announces gorgeous brand-new consoles

Fans are already not too pleased with their exorbitant prices though

Microsoft have just announced that there are three new Xbox Series consoles on the way, and if you’re feeling really keen you can pre-order them right now. Maybe you should wait until you see how much they cost first though…

As revealed on the Xbox Wire website, the three consoles are the Xbox Series S – 1TB in Robot White, Xbox Series X – 1TB Digital Edition in Robot White, and Xbox Series X – 2TB Galaxy Black “Special Edition”.

Check out the teaser trailer for the new Borderlands game below!

Depending on your region, these are available to pre-purchase immediately and will arrive on the 15th of October this year (although “select” countries won’t receive their pre-orders until the 29th of October).

The Xbox Series S – 1TB in Robot White version will set you back £299.99, the Xbox Series X – 1TB Digital Edition in Robot White version will cost £429.99, and the Xbox Series X – 2TB Galaxy Black Special Edition version will retail at a whopping £549.99. What cost of living crisis, ay?

Reactions to the prices have been decidedly mixed, erring on the side of negative.

Most folks seem to be (rightly) upset that these “new” consoles are simply just revisions of previous Xbox Series hardware, with their only distinguishing factors being the bigger hard drives (and the fancy coats of paint I guess).

“I know times are different and there's a lot of factors,” noted one commenter on Reddit, “but this is the first generation where we get revised models about 4 years in and the prices went up instead of down.”

“Yep, it's totally stupid.” replied another, “The Series X was selling for $400, often with a $50 gift card or free game, last fall/winter. Anyone paying $600 for the 2TB model has probably bumped his head.”

“It's a $200+ premium for additional storage that probably costs MS a whopping $20 to add” they continued, “The Galaxy part's neat and whatever, but we used to get these variants left and right for major releases, and without exorbitant price hikes.”

Hmm, should I pay my rent this month or buy a new video game console I already own, but in a sparkly new colour? Tough choice, but I’m sure my landlord will understand.
