Starfield major update teased by Bethesda's Todd Howard

Is Starfield going to make a comeback?

Remember how Bethesda launched a sci-fi RPG? We know it’s sometimes hard to recall that release given how mixed its reception was. But it did happen.

Well, Starfield is getting a major update according to Todd Howard, assuming you’re bothered about the game.

Don’t get us wrong, Starfield has plenty of merits to make it worth playing, it’s just not always easy to remember given how mods have had to fix annoying issues that Bethesda left.

Dive into Starfield's story with the trailer below

Since the resurgence of Fallout thanks to Amazon’s new series, Bethesda has been focused on making the most of the renewed hype. However, while Fallout is at the forefront of its mind, the publisher is still thinking about Starfield.

“We’re doing a lot of Starfield work as well,” Howard revealed during an interview with IGN. “So we have some really good updates that are going to get announced soon for that game. So, a lot going on here.”

Casting our minds back to the end of 2023, Bethesda teased plenty of requested features were coming to the space-age adventure, and so we assume that’s what “really good updates” references.

Hopefully, this update will pull the game back from the brink after its last update left its Steam reviews “mostly negative”. Nobody should hold their breath that it’ll happen, but it would be lovely to see Starfield rise from the ashes like Cyberpunk 2077 once did.

Of course, if Starfield is destined to remain in its dusty slump, we thankfully have Fallout to fall back on. The TV series has helped bring the franchise back to life, with Fallout 4 experiencing a 7,500 percent increase in sales.

We’ll always have a Bethesda franchise to immerse ourselves in, however, the jury’s still out whether its sci-fi RPG will be one of those we return to.
