Scramble Knight Royale is, for me, a real highlight of this year’s Day of the Devs: The Game Awards Edition Digital Showcase.

If you’re unfamiliar with Day of the Devs, it’s an incredible non-profit organisation, dedicated to highlighting the very best in indie gaming.

As such, an event like this is only possible due to generous sponsors and donors.

All of those involved in putting on the showcase do so on a voluntary basis, so please do consider supporting their efforts.

This year’s event saw Funktronic Labs stop by with a delicious little world premiere reveal.

Scramble Knights Royale is, you guessed it, an upcoming battle royale albeit one with a difference.

Inspired by classic adventure games like The Legend of Zelda, the game will see you partake in a fight to the death in an ‘arena’ designed for up to 32 players.

Of course, the goal is to see off your competitors but so too will you enjoy your own little adventure during each match, visiting various towns and dungeons, all complete with quests and even their own unique foes.

There’s very much a Fortnite feel at play here.

You’ll begin each match without any loot, having to scour the island for weapons and items; instead of departing from a Battle Bus in the sky, players will jump from a ship navigating the island’s waters.

Then, you’ll ride on the back of a turtle to the island’s shores.

“Be the last knight standing and win the favour of the princess,” the game’s synopsis reads.

“Traverse an archipelago filled with life, puzzles, dungeons, and treasures! Every run is a unique adventure. Prepare by finding loot and completing quests as the firewall forces every knight closer together.”

If you haven’t guessed, the firewall is this game’s answer to ‘the storm’ in Fortnite.

Scramble Knights Royale is reportedly packed with customisation options, with players getting a homestead they can customise.

I should also add that you’ll be able to play solo or as a duo, with duos working both online and via split screen.

If you die, you’ll apparently watch the rest of the match as a chicken .. cool, I guess?

Join In The Fun Soon

Scramble Knights Royale is set to launch on Xbox and PC via Steam in 2026, although an exact date hasn’t been pinned down.

You can, however, register your interest for a closed playtest via the game’s Steam listing, plus I’m sure the developers would appreciate you wishlisting the title.
