The Sims 5 first gameplay appears online, RIP our social lives

Looks like all our future plans have just been cancelled

It only takes five minutes of leaked The Sims 5 footage for us to know we’ll be cancelling real life plans left, right, and centre so we can be with our glorious creations. Social lives? Never heard of them.

I’ll admit, I’ve not got a thriving social life anyway – I’m too busy playing through yet another run of Baldur’s Gate 3 (don’t shame me), as well as starting up a new life in Stardew Valley since update 1.6. Basically, my schedule is packed.

Yet, I already know that The Sims 5 is going to take over my life when it launches. Although the video in question – as seen via DSO Gaming – is short in length, the music, the setup, it all has us immediately wanting to book a day off work and jump back into playing God.

Speaking of The Sims, we're still in love with living our cottagecore dreams

This comes at a time when the leaked map for the upcoming game has also appeared online, thus allowing our minds to run rampant as we imagine all the possibilities. With such a huge map, there’s no telling what our Sims (obviously controlled by us) will get up to.

The EA game is still some time away from launching, and so the footage you see should be appreciated as early stages of development only. Nevertheless, what we see gives us hope that The Sims 5 will take the best bits of both The Sims 3 and 4 to give us a superior experience.

As we already know, the new game will be free to play, meaning that DLC and extensions will likely lurk behind paywalls. Still, it’s a small price to pay when you can make and break lives with a couple of clicks of your mouse.

For now, we have no launch date for The Sims 5, otherwise known as Project Rene. However, we’ll be sure to keep you updated as we learn more.
