Industry insiders claim The Elder Scrolls VI will run on a vastly superior engine to Starfield at launch.

For all its faults, Starfield has been a successful launch for Bethesda so far, and it’s technically not officially out yet. Despite launching for early access adopters last Friday, the title is yet to unlock for everyone else, including Xbox fans waiting for it to drop on Xbox Game Pass.

Starfield has seen some glowing reviews so far from critics, and despite some controversy surrounding the option to pick your own pronouns in the character creation, the majority of players have enjoyed exploring what the game’s galaxy has to offer.

However, once the game is available for everyone, and the hype has died down, attention will undoubtedly shift to the next planned Bethesda game, The Elder Scrolls VI.

Despite being officially teased five years ago, the game only recently left the planning and concept phase and has now shifted into its first stages of actual development. Not a lot is known about the title as of yet, though it’s rumoured to be another Xbox and PC exclusive like Starfield.

Now, another rumour from Xbox insider and Windows Central reporter Jez Corden suggests The Elder Scrolls VI will be a significant upgrade from Starfield in terms of its engine.

This comes from rumblings Corden has supposedly heard in the industry and is apparently part of an effort by Bethesda to continuously improve the engine it uses for its RPGs. Improvements will likely be reflected in performance in the open world, potentially cutting back on long load times, which has actually been a major complaint with Starfield.

There’s currently no release date for The Elder Scrolls VI, and if it’s only just entered the early stages of development, we likely won’t see it for a while. Once it does release though, Bethesda’s focus will shift once again to Fallout 5.

In the meantime, players on Xbox and PC can enjoy everything Starfield has to offer if they’ve got early access. If not, a standard version of the game is set to release on the 6th of September this week.
